LIGHT+LIFE | MARCH 2025

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” (Ephesians 2:18-19a)

The Next Generation

We invest in the NEXT GENERATION. We dedicate major resources to raising up the next generation of passionate Jesus-followers. We will partner with parents to see our kids and students become all that God has called them to be.

We’ve joked before that we are planting a church for kids that also has something for adults. We have about 30-40 kids each week. What we hear from our kids over and over again is it’s fun, their teachers care about them, they have friends, and they actually learn about Jesus.

We’re incredibly proud of Sarah Brogan, our Kid City Coordinator for building our team and launching this part of our church. But because this part of our church is growing, we need to grow our volunteer team—specifically in our elementary classroom, but in the other rooms as well. We made a plea for six more volunteers and received two. We still need four more volunteers.

Our kids are being impacted in a huge way. They have real questions about following Jesus. They have friends who they are bringing on Sundays. They are now being formed into their future selves. They need loving adults to invest in them.

Fill out the volunteer interest form below or email Sarah Brogan at kids@brightcitysunbury.com.

Lily’s Piggy Bank Donation

A few weeks ago, Lily came to me (Josh) and said that she wanted to donate the money in her piggy bank to Bright City. I was amazed by this little girl’s generous heart, love for Jesus, and passion to support her church.

I did have to chuckle when she asked me what it would be spent on. I said Kid City! 😁

It also isn’t a surprise because her family are some of the most generous people. I believe that she has been watching this be modeled by her parents—so it just makes sense. Following Jesus means we live generously.

Big Walnut Young Life

Another way we invest in the next generation is by partnering with Big Walnut Young Life. Their team has consistently been in the lives of teenagers in our schools and community. At their Fall Weekend a few months ago, we saw five students decide to follow Jesus.

Club is Wednesday nights (think missional community), Campaigners is Monday nights (think Bible Study), and WyldLife for middle schoolers is every other Tuesday.

Resources

The “What Is Baptism?” resource answers key questions like: What does baptism mean? Why should I be baptized? How does Bright City practice baptism?

Baptism is a public declaration of faith, symbolizing new life in Jesus and identifying with His death and resurrection. At Bright City, we practice triune immersion, baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, reflecting the Trinity’s role in our salvation and new identity.

This guide also walks you through what to expect when getting baptized, from sharing your story to celebrating with family and friends. We also address questions about kids and baptism.

How to Pray

  • Pray for people who are seeking to know Jesus right now. We have several friends attending Bright City and exploring what they believe about Jesus.

  • Pray for a property/building that was gifted to Bright City. This story of partnership happened when another church in Sunbury prayerfully decided to close and join Bright City in December. We have felt humbled and have been gracious to receive them into our church family. While this building has not been ideal for our Sunday gatherings (specifically the number of kids we have), we have spent the last few months prayerfully considering how this space can be used as part of the vision for our church. This month, we will be having several crucial conversations about what we want to do going forward. Please be praying for wisdom and unity for our team, and the means to step into the dreams we have.
